Susan Skrzycki was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan where from an early age she was interested in both dance and art. She studied dance on scholarship through the years at Interlochen Arts Academy, North Carolina School of the Arts, United States International University, the American Dance Festival and California Institute of the Arts. Susan performed professionally with both ballet and modern dance companies including the California Ballet in San Diego, CA and more recently with Scorpius Dance Theatre in Phoenix, AZ. Although largely self-taught, her work has been featured in juried gallery exhibitions for over a decade in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Texas. Susan now calls Raleigh, North Carolina home and her work is often shown at Visual Art Exchange, The Artists’ Vault and Wake County Public Libraries. Susan coordinates artists and volunteer resources for Beautifying Emerging Spaces Together (BEST), a new non-profit organization that focuses on overlooked, vacant storefronts and spaces in downtown Raleigh, repurposing underutilized buildings into canvases for artistic expression and community interaction.
